Businesses today have to provide fast, flexible solutions to their employees while being mindful of their return on investment and total cost of ownership. However, despite investing significant sums of money on developing feature-rich, powerful software, businesses often remain unable to extract their desired value from their investment because of poor user acceptance.

Which Type of Communicator Are You?

Posted by Christine Ziebell on 2/7/2017 6:18:31 PM

When you're working on a team, nothing is quite as important as understanding how to convey your message (and hear everyone else's.) Unfortunately, not everyone communicates the same way, and there are hurdles to overcome when dealing with different types of communicators. Why is it important to understand what kind of communicators are on your team? Simply put, because it affects the bottom line. Towers Watson report from 2014 reported that organizations with effective communication and change management are 3.5 times more likely to outperform their peers. (Big surprise.)

Why Coworking Spaces Rock!

Posted by Christine Ziebell on 11/10/2016 10:52:23 PM

Only a few years ago, coworking spaces (as we understand them today) were still relatively rare. The closest thing to them were perhaps executive suites, which provided small businesses the opportunity to rent out a desk and take advantage of joint meeting rooms as well as some other joint amenities. The biggest difference between the traditional executive suites and modern coworking spaces can be defined as “community.” Executive suites were designed to offer isolated workspaces whereas modern coworking spaces are designed to create opportunities for networking, while taking full advantage of a great community atmosphere.

Why Digital Networking Is Important (and How to Master It)

When LinkedIn launched its service in 2003, many of us thought they were nuts. I will be the first to admit I was not an early adaptor. Taking the time to ”connect” with people on the platform seemed pointless: ”OK, so now we’re connected on LinkedIn, now what?” Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

It’s a no-brainer. I wasn’t surprised when a Gallup study reported that business units in the top 25% of their engagement database have considerably higher productivity and profitability ratings.

What puzzles me is why so many companies still haven’t figured out policies that will improve the performance of their employees. If staff productivity isn't where you want it to be, don’t despair. How Online Team Collaboration Tools Impact Workplace Success

Posted by Christine Ziebell on 1/8/2016 5:08:00 PM

Effective collaboration in the workplace is a surefire sign of a high-functioning and effective team. In the past, pushing better collaboration meant that companies needed to get rid of office cubicles and force teams to work – resulting in an abundance of meetings where teams came together face to face. Although this approach worked for some, for most of us it meant filling up your calendar with meeting after meeting that was so focused on collaboration that nothing really got done. This, in turn, prompted innovative minds to place an emphasis on collaborative balance. Through technology, social tools, and collaborative means, employees can work together when they need to, and still take advantage of privacy to complete individual tasks.

With the right technology, employees don't even need to be in the same room to access real-time communication, shared information, and work towards a shared goal. However, before you can begin implementing new strategies into your organization, you may want to understand how team collaboration leads directly to workplace success.

What Every Business Should Learn From Taylor Swift

Posted by Christine Ziebell on 11/20/2015 3:53:00 PM

If there is one thing that is critical to the success of any business, it’s communication. Internal communication, external communication, efficiency in communication – the list goes on and on. If you recognize that communication is an area of improvement in your business (it always is!), perhaps it's time that you take a bit of advice from Taylor Swift. Yes, you read that right. Taylor might be just 25-years old, and she may be too pretty to be taken seriously by some, but she does know a thing or two about effective communication.

Here's a close look at some of her best communication tactics and how you can use them to propel your business and your employees toward higher levels of engagement.

Best Intranet Solutions For Small Business

Posted by Christine Ziebell on 11/17/2015 3:30:00 PM

It's safe to say we're living in an era where information is crucial to success, however in spite of this, many businesses - both large and small - sometimes struggle to store all of the data they need in an efficient and reliable way. Fortunately, that's one of the issues that the intranet solutions of today aim to fix.

These days, many corporations invest in their own intranet - a solution that acts as the hub for a business, providing employees with a central place to store and find documentation, discussions, templates, and other materials relevant to the company. Access to an intranet means that internal communications within an organization can simplify, allowing more room for successful growth as productivity thrives. A traditional intranet allows a company to efficiently handle “top down” communication, but those who really want to take internal communication to the next level will implement a communication platform that allows for two-way communication and collaboration. Following are just some of the reasons why all companies should consider having an intranet – and preferably a two-way solution.

Ashton Kutcher Invests in Tech Startups? We want you!

Posted by Christine Ziebell on 10/28/2015 4:46:00 PM

Some time ago, I came across an article about Ashton Kutcher and the investments he has made in upcoming tech start-ups. My first thought was: How cool would it be to get someone like him onboard with Intraboom?!

Turns out the “coolness” of having someone like Ashton as an investor in your company is not so obvious to everyone.

I brought up my new discovery on Ashton’s investment strategies to Intraboom’s current angel investors.

“Hey, did you know that Ashton Kutcher invests in tech startups?” My statement was met with a blank stare.

“Wouldn’t it be great if someone like him wanted to invest in Intraboom?” Continued blank stare. Followed by, “Why?”

Apparently, the professional investor philosophy is that “money is just money.” Whether or not it comes form a “cool” source doesn’t matter. Okay, I get that.

But what about the strategic aspect of someone like Ashton Kutcher? Let me explain.

9 Project Management Tips That Will Help You Crush Your Goals

Posted by Christine Ziebell on 10/14/2015 5:16:00 PM

These days project managers can be found in every industry. While not always called by the same name, a project manager is the glue that keeps all the pieces together. Because the role is so varied – indeed, because the role requires that the person be in charge of everything and nothing at the same time – it is often overlooked. Many companies have learned that project mangers are integral in a project’s success, and they’ve learned it the hard way.

To be clear: If there is one person, who can be singled out as having the greatest impact on client satisfaction, it’s the project manager. Even if there are hick-ups in the project (and let’s face it, there almost always are), the client can still be happy at the end of the day if the process is driven by a good project manager. Inversely, poor project management will yield an unhappy client virtually without exception.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with some GREAT project managers. Unfortunately, I have also been teamed up with some pretty crummy ones, too.

So, from a client perspective, here are nine project management tips to all the project managers out there…

5 Ways to Turn the Workplace into a Zen Studio

Posted by Christine Ziebell on 10/6/2015 1:41:00 PM

The scene is an upscale fitness studio, the beautiful hardwood floor scattered with plush cushions and cross-legged meditators. The lights (candles, maybe?) are dim, and peaceful music plays in the background, accompanied by the sound of deep breaths being exhaled from Lululemon clad residents of the Upper East Side.

For many of us, the word “Zen” conjures a scene similar to this one. It’s not just a word, it’s a concept; a vague idea of a state-of-mind that most people living in the “real world” will never be able to achieve.  Who has time to spend every afternoon centering yourself?

If finding your “Zen” moment comes at the price of lost afternoons and pricey fitness spas, most of us are out of luck. So the question is: Does it?

Manage Less, Produce More: A look into Effective Online Collaboration

Posted by Christine Ziebell on 10/6/2015 1:34:00 PM

The professional environment has changed. In the past, you would work only with the people who shared a physical space with you. A long-distance collaboration took place over expensive long-distance phone calls and slow physical mail. Expensive plane rides were necessary to work on items while sharing the same place.

As we’ve found new ways to communicate, we’ve developed new tools to allow people to work on projects together no matter how many miles there are between them. The result has been the chance to collaborate with the best minds you have available, no matter how far away they are and what time it is in their part of the world. Each type of communication has unique benefits and drawbacks that influence how well they will work for your specific situation.
